Ladies Luck

Captain Isaacs, the ANXIOUS and Lady Luck continue to be a great combination. Dena Demboski scheduled 2 days fishing on the Anxious for her and her friend, Leila.  Dena has caught most of the different billfish, with the exception of the blue marlin, and she came to Kona to accomplish that. The first day was exciting with 2 marlin hooked, but both jumped and threw the hook.  Day 2 worked out much better, as around 10:00 am the softhead lure on the short outrigger disappeared and a 250lb blue marlin begin jumping back and fourth behind the boat.

Leila was first in the chair and fought the marlin to the boat in about 30 minutes and then we released it. This was Leila’s first fish of any kind; not bad for a pure novice (hooked for life now).

Dena was rewarded for allowing her friend to go first, as within the next hour we hooked a 2nd marlin. Dena, with her experience, had the 350lb blue marlin to the boat in about 15 minutes. They were able to get good pictures of the marlin in the water beside the boat before it was released.  Just to finish off the day, Dena caught a 30lb mahi for supper!

The ladies with their luck are welcome anytime.

Rock’n Reel Tourney Practice Run

Fish ON
Fish Jumps Near Boat

June 8th, 2017

Mike Magnotti, a longtime customer and friend from Dallas, who fishes regularly with us, is back in town to fish the annual Rock ‘n Reel Tournament, which he has fished in for the last several years very successfully. One year he caught the biggest Mahi Mahi and won a new Penn reel and has finished in the top Second, Third and Forth winning prize money.
Mike got to town early this week and chartered Anxious for a half day to practice for the tourney this weekend. In the first hour he fought and released an approximate 400 pound blue marlin. Then, just prior to returning to the harbor, we pulled the hook at the boat on a nice Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna). Good practice for the coming Rock ‘n Reel tourney, June 9th through 11th.

The Bertram’s Visit Anxious Again

Cassy and Ben Bertram, repeat customers, had a great day aboard the “Anxious” last Saturday. They had originally chartered with us two years ago because the “Anxious” was built by Bertram. The Bertram’s tagged and released two blue marlin, approximately 250 and 450 pounds on that trip two years ago.

Cassy and Ben Bertram

June 3rd, the Bertram’s luck continued, as Ben tagged and released a 400 pound blue marlin and a short nose spearfish. He also boated a 20 pound Ono (Wahoo) for the table. Cassy would not be left out, as she released another short nose Spearfish, and boated a nice 81 pound Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) and a 30 pound Mahi Mahi.

All of this fresh fish will be prepared for a family member’s wedding party. We will be seeing the Bertrams next year.

21st Annual Huggo’s Wahine Tournament

August 2, 2016

Saturday July 30th was the 21st annual Huggo’s Wahine (Women’s) Tournament. The fish decided to show up for the ladies this year in a big way! Sixty-Six boats caught a total of twenty seven 27 Blue Marlin and  fortunately for us, The Anxious was one of them!

At about 11 AM we had our first bite from a 150 pound Blue Marlin that our long time Wahine Team Angler, Jessica Garoza brought to the boat in just 7 minutes!

We had another chance at about 1:30 PM from another Blue Marlin which if we had caught it would have put us in some of the tournament winnings but the hook didn’t stick! Oh well, it wasn’t meant to be…this year!

The Wahine’s that took first place had a real giant Blue Marlin weighing 780 pounds! Congrats to them!

Arizona Father and Son Team

Dale in the Anxious Fighting Chair
Dale in the Anxious Fighting Chair

Thursday July 14, 2016

We took out father and son team, Brigham and Dale from Scottsdale AZ. for a 1/2 day fishing charter.

By 7:30 AM we had eight year old Dale hooked up with a nice blue marlin! He did a great job fighting the fish with a little help from dad! Dale’s feet couldn’t reach the foot rest of the fighting chair, so Brigham had to hold onto him to keep him from flying off the back of the boat! After 15 minutes or so the pair got the fish up along the boat side for pictures!
We measured the fish and then harmlessly released the Marlin to fight another day. At 11 feet long, and 350 pounds, the marlin was MUCH larger than the angler! Dale decided he wanted a replica hanging in his bedroom for his birthday which was only a week or two away so we were able to get that going for him! What a great early birthday present!

Great job Dale and Brigham, and Happy Birthday Dale!

TN Charter – Spearfish, Marlin and Ono

Acrobatic Marlin tries to turn In-Side-Out!
Acrobatic Marlin tries to turn In-Side-Out!

Today we had Tom and Logan from Tennessee out for a full day fishing charter. Logan is an experienced fisherman who is on the University of Tennessee Bass Fishing Team, so we were excited to see what he thought of Marlin fishing. The bite has still been very good but it slowed down a bit for the fleet today – luckily not for us!

We started off the day with two quick Spearfish bites that got away, but then around 11:00 AM we had a nice 200 LB Blue Marlin come and crash the short rigger bait! Luckily for Logan, it stayed on the line! He fought the fish to the boat in a few short minutes and handed off the Marlin to crew member Shawn Palmer’s hands, where the fish decided to put on a display of acrobatic jumps right behind the boat!

Then we were on our way home and managed to hook a deep water Ono for their dinner that night, to end another great day on “The Anxious”, in Kona-Hawaii!

Big Tuna and Two Blues

Veronica's Big Tuna
Veronica’s Big Tuna

We took Travis and Veronica from Dallas out for a full day. We knew the bite has been better early in the day so we left at 6 AM and had our first Marlin to the boat for Travis by 6:45! It was about 175 lbs. as we continued trolling we had a flurry of bites, three in an hours’ time but they all got away. It wasn’t looking good for Veronica. But at about 12:30 PM we had a nice bite that stuck. Veronica battled the big fish for about 15 minutes and got her first Ahi ever. It weighed 115 lbs.

Then just as we were about to go home for the day we caught one more 150 lb Blue to cap off a great day with new friends!!!

We look forward to seeing you two in the near future!!!

Wisconsin Four – 250 LB Blue

Blue Marlin, June 2016
Blue Marlin, June 2016

We had a nice family of four from Wisconsin out for a half day charter.
Early in the morning we got dad (Wally) in the chair and had a nice 400 lb Blue eat the long corner but completely missed the hook. We were all bummed. Next was Wally’s 15 year old son Kyle’s turn. Then, we waited another hour or so and a 250 lb Blue came up for a bite and stayed hooked! Kyle did great and got the big Blue to the boat in about 10 minutes! Great job Kyle!
